We are pleased to open our successful electives program on an a la carte basis to homeschooling families not currently enrolled in Foundations First Christian.

Registration is for students in Grades 6-12 and is contingent on available space, a successfully completed application process, and payment of $50 annual registration fee.

The syllabus includes learning about eight artists (two weeks per artist) and creating a mini work in that artists style. Mini works could be presented as: diorama style, sketches, painting, abstract, clay, etc. Class is open to artists who love to create and wish to refine, or push their abilities in a possible new direction with inspiration stemming from an artist studied over the course of sixteen weeks.
Forensics is unique because it has observable application to real life. Its importance is demonstrated every day by police officers and investigators to solve crimes. As Christians we desire justice and for wrongs to be made right. Forensic Science helps to accomplish this goal. It encompasses many other sciences such as chemistry, entomology, botany, genetics, etc. and students can observe how the sciences work together and build on each other.
This elective will cover the basic principles of Graphic Design which is the art of creating and arranging visual elements with confidence to communicate a message effectively. Students will create, explore and learn about typography, color theory, branding, marketing, logo design, packaging, and editorial or publication design layouts. This class will focus on home economics and DIY skills, some of which are lost arts and remnants of days of old. The unit paints a picture of the early settlers, learning to survive and thrive off the land and with each lesson, we learn how they adapted without the modern conveniences we know and rely on today.
Learn Spanish through stories and speaking! We will use a new kind of teaching that helps you acquire new language by using it naturally. The Somos Curriculum teaches language and culture simultaneously, allowing Spanish students the opportunity to develop cultural understanding at a depth rarely achieved in beginning language courses. Strike up the band! Choose a woodwind, brass, and/or a percussion instrument to study and play. Students may bring their own instrument or rent an instrument through Hunterdon Music in Flemington. Students will need to purchase a lesson book for home practice.

Learn Irish Dance: Solo or Ceili depending on the number of students.

The first half of the semester will focus on navigating the keyboard. This will include developing proper posture and placement of hands on the keyboard, followed by lessons created from a book by Diana Hanbury King, “Writing Skills, keyboard skills” and using typing.com as a resource. There will be an assessment on the first day of class to see what skill level each student is at. Students will be expected to practice at home for at least five minutes a day. There will be a test each week
Monday’s students will be physically challenged to one of four workouts that will rotate throughout the semester. We will have a baseline of certain skills that will be assessed monthly to track progress. Thursday we will be playing a sport (wiffle ball, football, volleyball, basketball or kickball). Satellite work will be practicing your physical skills and keeping a log.
This elective will meet once a week with an optional extension to 3:30 PM. We will develop basic cooking skills and healthy food choices from simple recipes that can be used to create various breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert dishes. The goal is to build confidence and creativity in the kitchen so that students can be independent creative cooks who make healthy food choices! The students will cook eggs, pancakes, waffles, quiche, salads, dressings, appetizers, ethnic sauces/dishes, dinners,
Theater games, Improv, and a Fall Play all in one class! We will use our class to work on acting skills and to produce and perform a one act play.
Students will learn the fundamentals of several different sports and then spend time playing those sports with their classmates
This art class is designed for the student who may not be great at drawing or painting, but still wants to create a personal masterpiece discovering the art of creating patterns. These dotted patterns can be placed on canvases, wood, ornaments, etc. The possibilities are truly endless. We will also try our hand at different mosaic projects. Using air-dry clay, paints, and embellishments we will be creating diverse and unique pieces to give forward or to simply display.
The first few weeks will be an introduction to baking basics, such as: kitchen “tools”, measurements and abbreviations found in recipes, basic ingredients and what each one does. This class will have an optional extension to 3:30 PM. Baked goods will include but are not limited to cookies, brownies, muffins, no bake options, et cetera. In this class, students will refine and share their performance gifts! Students may choose to perform solo or in a group number: sing, recite a monologue, poetry, perform a stand-up routine, or try something new. Each term will end with a performance. The Fall performance, “Masked Musician” will take place on October 15, 2024. The Christmas performance, “Christmas Cabaret” will take place on December 18, 2024.
