Tell us a little about yourself.
Hello, My name is Laurie Anderson. I have been a stay-at -home homeschooling mom for the past 10 years. I have worked with children throughout my entire life- from infants, to special needs to at-risk-youth and have loved every stage of it! I live in Bedminster, NJ with my husband, twin daughters and many pets. I also have an adult son who resides in N.C.
What is your favorite Bible verse or passage and why?
My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 139:13-16. I love this verse because it reminds me of God's goodness and His desire to know us all individually. The idea that each and every one of us was created by Him with a purpose and a story is nothing short of amazing!
Ps.139:13-14
For you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Besides the Bible, what is your favorite book and why?
The book,"The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch is one of my all time favorites. I love the grit put into this book. Pausch writes about adversity, perseverance, teamwork and love. A wonderful line to remember is about choice,we all have a choice, we get to decide, "Am I a fun-loving Tigger or am I a sad-sack Eeyore?" I am a Tigger!
If you could make 1 major change to education, what would it be?
If I could make any changes to education it would be for more hands-on learning for all ages. I believe wholeheartedly: to do is to learn.
What aspects of Foundation First's model do you find most appealing?
The aspects that most interest me About FFC's model is the ability to be fully involved and part of a community, yet have the flexibility and responsibility to still teach my children at home. I am looking forward to becoming part of this community and watching the friendships that will grow and blossom for children, parents and teachers alike.
Describe your teaching style or philosophy. Do you have any unique teaching methods you use to engage students?
My teaching style is very hands-on. I believe that a classroom should be warm, engaging and playful. I aim to provide an enriching environment where each child can explore their interests by playing with a multitude of toys and mediums allowing them to develop and grow at their own unique pace.
My favorite quote that sums up my teaching style is: Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. - Benjamin Franklin
