Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a daughter of the King! I have been married to my husband, James, for 7 years and have beautiful twin daughters. I love reading, doing cross-stitch, exercising, baking, taking walks, and photography. My favorite thing to do is snuggle-up with my family after a long week and watch a movie together. I usually fall asleep within the first 30 minutes, but no one seems to mind.
What is your favorite Bible verse or passage and why?
My favorite Bible passage is Hebrews 10:19-25, specifically verse 23. Over the past 5 years, this particular verse has served as a continuous altar that reminds me of Gods faithfulness and promises. His word is living and true! He has revealed this truth to me countless times and in each situation I have learned more about who God is through good times and the bad.
Besides the Bible, what is your favorite book and why?
I think I will need a list of genres to fill out. I love reading and it is so hard to pick just one. Currently, my favorite faith-based book is, “The End of Me: Where Real Life in the Up-Side Down Ways of Jesus Begin”, written by Kyle Idleman. This book really shook my world up as it made me realize just how sinful we are and how much we TRULY need Jesus. It spoke about going against what the world says and being empty of ourselves so God can fill us up with His grace and truth! I also love “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” written by Heather Morris. I love reading historical fiction and nonfiction, and this one was a real page turner!
If you could make 1 major change to education, what would it be?
Wow. This is a big question. I think overall, I would make changes that would allow kids to be kids for longer. Then, as they grow older I would add curriculum that teaches more life skills and an opportunity to study more interests that they personally have. I would also love to have more resources available to help kids thrive!
What aspects of Foundation First's model do you find most appealing?
One aspect of Foundations first model that I find appealing is the community aspect. God created us to be relational people and what better way to help children grow and learn then partnering with families to pour not only education but Christ into their lives. The ability to gather 3 days a week to allow for more experiences and family time is such a blessing.
Describe your teaching style or philosophy. Do you have any unique teaching methods you use to engage students?
My personal teaching style allows for a lot of movement, song, and hands on learning. I believe every child learns differently and I am dedicated to being an advocate for every student's success. I strive to meet every child where they are and help them gain confidence so they may be life-long learners. My priority as a school teacher is to make my classroom a safe space for growth, love, and exploration. One of my goals is to have every student leave my classroom knowing they are fearfully and wonderfully made so that they have a strong foundation of who they are and whose they are!
