Tell us a little about yourself.
What is your favorite Bible verse or passage and why?
“This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 This has been my go-to verse over the past four years. Before my son was born in January of 2020, I had this verse displayed in my fourth-grade classroom. When he was born, we named him Joshua. There is so much around us every day that can be discouraging and pull us away from what God has called us to do. God “commands” us to be strong and courageous. He knows it’s what we need in our lives. Then, he doesn’t leave us alone to be
strong and courageous in our own strength. He promises to be with us wherever we go. I try to live in this everyday with His help! We can do it through Him!
Besides the Bible, what is your favorite book and why?
Oh, this is a hard one! There are so many great books that I love. One that comes to mind is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. I love stories with redemptive relationship messages that represent real struggles that people have.
If you could make 1 major change to education, what would it be?
If I could make one major change to education, I would make it more flexible and integrate as many real-world connections as possible.
What aspects of Foundation First's model do you find most appealing?
I love the connection between Foundations and families. The relationship centered focus is so important. All great education is based on relationship.
Describe your teaching style or philosophy. Do you have any unique teaching methods you use to engage students?
I try to look at what needs to be taught and link it to student interests. I also desire to find connections throughout each of the subjects to make the learning process more fluid and easier for students to build upon. Each student is gifted in some way. I like to help students identify those areas of giftedness and explore how to use their God-given abilities to succeed in all areas.
